[LABARAI] Nigerian govt attacks Obasanjo over comments on Boko Haram

The Nigerian government has criticised a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, over the latter’s recent comment on the Boko Haram insurgency.
Mr Obasanjo reportedly said the Boko Haram insurgency was “no longer an issue of lack of education and lack of employment for our youth in Nigeria which it began as.”
“It is now West African Fulanization, Islamization and global organised crimes of human trafficking, money laundering, drug trafficking, gun trafficking, illegal mining and regime change,” he was quoted as saying at a church event.
GUSAULOADED reported how the former president’s statement was criticised by his political ally and former minister, Sule Lamido.
On Tuesday, the federal government joined those criticising Mr Obasanjo for the statement. It accused the former president of “imputing ethno-religious motive to Boko Haram and ISWAP.”
The government’s stance was contained in a statement by the information minister, Lai Mohammed.
Mr Obasanjo has in the past suggested ways to end Boko Haram. He once tried to lead a mediation between the terror group and the government during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
